Description

Dress in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, c. 1836-1840.

This romantic dress has sleeve line typical of the late 1830s. After 1835 the sleeves were cut narrow at the upper arm, with fullness extending from the elbow. To achieve this silhouette the sleeves of this dress are smocked in the upper half. The bodice features a pleated bertha collar and is shaped by two darts. To achieve the full skirt several petticoats or a corded petticoat should be worn underneath.

Sizes S (US 6-10 = bust 76 – 81cm,  30.5″ – 32.5″) or  M(12-16 = bust 85 – 95cm, 34″ – 38″)
